Private Fees

Doctors' Terms of Service provide for a number of statutory medical certificates to be issued to patients free of charge (the main example being statutory sickness certificates). Charges will be made for work that is not part of a doctor's normal NHS responsibility.

A table of fees is displayed on the Reception Desk at the surgery.

The rates are based on those recommended by the British Medical Association. Payment must usually be in advance for posted reports or on collection. Patients must also pay for reports which they have requested but which have not been collected.

Why, if this is an NHS practice, are fees charged for some work?
